Mortlach's Ground
Notes:
The dotted rhythms and crisp ornaments of Mortlach's Ground give it a Scottish flavour. This and other pieces by John Blow are found in "Musick's Hand-Maid" (1689), compiled by Henry Purcell. After successive variations, the piece ends with an arpeggiated version of the basic chord progessions, an effect which derives from popular ballads of the period.
