Largo from Sonata in C
Notes:
The Six trio sonatas for organ were composed in Leipzig sometime around 1727. Written in the Italian form of Sonata da Camera, an imitative violin-style duo line is supported by a basso continuo. The bass line is played both on the lower open strings of the lute and in the left hand on the harpsichord, resulting in an organ-like sonority. The rhythmic and chromatic complexity of the two intertwined melody lines is unique to Bach's style.
